Symbols: In this chapter Pearl is a symbol. She is pretty much the living punishment, the walking scarlet letter. But not only is she a reminder of the sin she committed but she is also hope in a way. She gave Hester that little bit of happiness and gave her reasons to do certain things.
Tone: It has a very descriptive tone to it. It describes Pearl a lot. Its also has a loving tone, to why Pearl is important to Hester.
Mysteries: Is Pearl going to do something to worsen Hester's punishment? Why does Pearl act this way?
Say What?:"Art thou my child, in very truth?" asked Hester. In this quote, Hester questions Pearl if she is really her daughter. Pearl sometimes acts so devilish that Hester doesn't really wanna believe she's her child.

This is significant because this is when they question Pearl and she doesn't answer and they think Hester is a bad parent.
